TiVo Pairs Up With Europes Vestel For Its First Smart TV
There's a new smart TV startup out there and it's a household name. TiVo, yes, that's TiVo, partnering with European manufacturer Vestel for the first smart TV to run on TiVo's operating system. They will be available on the continent for the first time in 2023.
Overall, we should expect the same experience we saw with TiVo Stream 4K, the Android-based dongle introduced by the company in 2020. It was a decent little device with a user interface that tries to understand part of the vast broadcast space. And the smart TV space hasn't diminished either, with TiVo and Vestel joining Roku, Amazon Fire TV, LG and Samsung, all of which have their own dedicated operating systems to power TVs.
“We estimate that around 40% of the smart TV market is looking for a truly independent platform like ours and an industry partner that backs it up with deep industry experience,” said John Kirchner, CEO of Xperi. Matrix TiVo. “Today, nearly 30 million homes worldwide are supported by TiVo through a combination of CTV and other partners. We are thrilled to sign our first Smart TV partnership with TiVo OS, a integrated operating and multimedia platform for Smart TV, which represents a significant step forward in our goal to become one of the leading providers of operating system platforms for television.”
Vestel says the first TiVo smart TVs will be released in many countries within a few years, with a deal for one million units.

It's unclear exactly which countries will be participating, or the specifics of any of the TVs, so stay tuned.
