Realme Smart TV X 43inch Review: Appealing To A Mass Audience
The Realme Smart TV X was announced earlier this year, and now I finally have the opportunity to test the 43-inch version of the device. The price is very competitive at Rs 24,999 and it has paper compatible devices. Now many players have emerged in the smart TV race and the main ones are Xiaomi, OnePlus etc. In this review, let's find out if the Realme Smart TV X is an option worth considering in the highly competitive TV space.
Internal knowledgeRealme's design work on the Smart TV X is not far from ordinary. In my opinion, the standard black color scheme and plastic design won't win any styling points. However, this is a budget smart TV, so the premium look might be too much anyway. As for the build quality, the TV is very solid and the frame does not rust when the set is moved. On the back, there's a bump in the middle to make room for the ports, and below you'll find the 24W square speakers.
You can either mount the TV on the wall or use two brackets that attach to the bottom and can be placed on any flat surface. I went with the latter and had no issues with case stability. Moving on to ports, you get three HDMI ports, two USB Type-A ports, an Ethernet port, an AV port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Access to ports is easy, although the wall mount can make accessing the two HDMI ports and USB Type-A port difficult. In terms of wireless connectivity options, the device offers Bluetooth 5.0 and dual-band Wi-Fi.
Performance is carried out by a quad-core MediaTek SoC consisting of Cortex-A55 processors and Mali-G31 MP2 GPU. In addition, you will also get 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. Long story short, I wasn't too impressed with the handling of the Smart TV X. The UI was a bit sluggish and would randomly freeze for a few seconds when switching between apps. However, the apps themselves run fine and show no signs of buffering. Android TV works on 11 devices and provides access to the Play Store and your favorite OTT apps. As expected, there is built-in Chromecast functionality for easy screen casting.
The remote has the same design and button layout as previous Realme TV remotes. It's smooth, made of composite polymer, and has a matte finish all over. You can directly access Netflix, YouTube and Prime Video using the associated buttons on the remote. In addition, there is a dedicated Google Assistant button to access the interface through voice commands. The remote is effectively integrated with the Smart TV X.
Talking about the display quality, I was very satisfied with the viewing experience of the Realme Smart TV X. The display is HDR10 and HLG compatible, which increases the dynamic range of supported media content in formats such as Netflix and Amazon Prime. The bezels around the panel are also very slim, which I like. The TV also has a Chroma Boost picture engine behind the scenes to boost color saturation and brightness, but you can turn it off in the settings menu. The TV X has a peak brightness of 400 nits, which I think is more than enough for any indoor use. The panel is not anti-glare, so any light source shining directly behind you will obstruct your view.
In terms of sound quality, the 24W four-speaker setup performs well. It is Dolby Audio certified for better clarity and there is no hissing from the speakers even at very high volume levels. Voices are easily distinguishable from instruments in the background and the soundstage presented is spot on. However, the speakers do not have bass that loses the sound quality of the depth.
OrganizeDespite the cheap price, the Realme Smart TV X definitely has a high overall quality. It may not be readily apparent from the outside, but when it comes to metrics like screen quality and usability, the TV X proves to be an attractive option against its competitors. One issue, perhaps, is the versatility of the TV X. However, as an all-in-one package, the Realme Smart TV X is a smart TV to beat under the Rs 25,000 mark.
