The Galaxy Watch 4 Boosts Samsungs Global Smartwatch Market Share
In the second quarter, shipments also increased compared to last year
The smartwatch market is more crowded, with new luxury models coming out almost every two months. Samsung, to name just one brand, just launched its own line of devices, the Galaxy Watch 5. But it seems somewhat odd that the popularity of the Galaxy Watch 4 has had an impressive side effect. What's even more surprising is that the Korean manufacturer has made inroads into the growing global smartwatch market.

Apple, on the other hand, grew from 30.6% to 29.3% over the same period. These results are part of the Global Smartwatch Model Tracker published by Counterpoint Research.
Global shipments rose 13% year-on-year in the second quarter, particularly in India, where the segment grew thanks to the launch of low-cost smartwatches that cost a fraction of their more expensive alternatives, including the Galaxy Watch 4 very popular. in North America, the series helped grow the retail channel's traffic by 347%. During the year, India increased its share of smartwatch shipments from 6% to 22% of the pie, overtaking China by one percentage point to take second place. North America continues to lead, although shipments are down 4% year over year.
Sujon Lim, deputy director of Counterpoint, said the smartwatch market has held up despite earlier predictions of a slowdown. It added that 30% of models shipped in India in the second quarter of 2022 were sold for less than $50, supporting the widespread adoption of smartwatches in the region. The key drivers for India were regional brands such as Fire-Boltt and Noise, with the latter growing 298% year-on-year.
Huawei, which just a year ago was in second place in terms of smartwatch shipments, dropped to third place. However, the brand continued to dominate the Chinese smartwatch market for the third consecutive quarter. Amazfit shipments fell 11% in China, although the company performed quite well in India, up 65% compared to the first quarter. Xiaomi's global smartwatch market share fell slightly in the second quarter of 2022.
