Apple Has Worked On Docking Accessory That Would Turn The IPad Into A Smart Home Display
Apple is working on a docking accessory for the iPad that will let customers turn the device into a Smart Home screen, similar to Google's approach to the Pixel tablet.
At a recent event, Google announced that it will be offering a speaker charger that attaches magnetically to the back of the next Pixel tablet, essentially turning it into a smart home display like the Nest.Hub and Nest Hub Max. Gurman said today that he expects Apple to bring similar functionality to the iPad next year via a stand-alone docking station, and that the company is working on a display and speaker combination in a separate iPad Home product.
Gurman said in the latest Power On Newsletter:
I was told that Apple is working on bringing similar functionality to the iPad starting in 2023. Last year I reported that Apple was looking for a standalone device that would combine the iPad and speaker interface. The idea is to provide something that users can put on the kitchen table, in the living room or on the nightstand. But Apple was working on an iPad dock that could be sold separately and do the same thing.
The iPad Docking Station accessory allows users to use their iPad to control various functions in their home through the Home app, make FaceTime calls using the iPad's front-facing camera from center stage, and more.
Compared to Google and Amazon, Apple has kept a low profile in home products, launching only the HomePod mini in October 2020 and completing the main HomePod in March 2021. The new full-size HomePod is just one of many products Apple has to offer. Providing. . . In the year It will start in 2023. The new full-size HomePod is said to keep the same design as the original smart speaker, but offer better performance and possibly a new screen.
