The Morning After: Testing Googles New Pixel 7 Phones And Its First Smartwatch

Google started teasing the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro phones, Pixel watches and Pixel tablets a few months ago. We finally have all the details (and prices). The Engadget team got to briefly test everything except the tablet, which is due out next year.

The Pixel 7 Pro is arguably the more attractive of the two phones with a triple lens system on the back. This year, the telephoto lens has been upgraded with the same Quad Bayer PD technology as the original 50MP sensor. It has 5x optical zoom, and the high-resolution sensor means you can take cropped images with 10x zoom at 12.5 megapixels.

The Pixel Watch, which has been rumored for years, will finally arrive next week. It lasts up to 24 hours with the screen always on and can charge up to 50 percent in 30 minutes. Can Google make WearOS a compelling smartwatch option? Stay tuned for updates.

It's been a long morning for Google ads. We've rounded up the top stories below.

Good design, good price.

This is the second generation of Google Pixel phones with its own Tensor chip. The next-generation chips in the Pixel 7 ($599) and Pixel 7 Pro ($899) feature a next-generation design with a new aluminum camera panel. The finishes of the two phones are slightly different, with the Pixel 7 looking like brushed aluminum, while the Pixel 7 Pro has a shiny, glossy body. Sam Rutherford prefers Engadget stuff. The Pixel 7 has a 6.3-inch 90Hz OLED display, making it slightly smaller than its predecessor, the Pixel 6. It is the first smartwatch.

Finally, here it is. The Pixel Watch costs $349. Engadget's Sheryln Lowe says it's "one of the best-looking smartwatches" she's seen. (Although I'm not sure I agree) The device is only available in one size, 41mm, but many of the bands deliberately follow the style of Apple's competitors. At the same time, it is the same size as the small Apple Watch. The device is covered with a special 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 that looks like a polished stone, which ensures that the device can withstand drops or scratches. Read our first impressions.
