Melb Mayor To Give TEDx Talk On Why COVID Was ‘Good For The City & Pls Sally, Put A Capp In It

Melbourne's capitalist police, race-loving mayor, Lord Sally Capp , believes the pandemic has actually benefited her city, which she says is stronger than ever on the other side.

Cap will give a TEDx talk on Friday as part of the Kintsugi: From Broken to Beautiful series on how Melbourne has benefited from the pandemic. For example, we now have more outdoor dining!

We remember that since the pandemic began, 5,990 Victorians have died from COVID-19 and Melbourne residents have spent 246 days in isolation. Sure, the lockdowns saved thousands of lives, but it was still crap.

The pandemic has also led to a massive increase in mental health problems, exacerbated our housing crisis and made the rich richer, leaving 870,000 Australians out of work in May 2020 alone.

But despite all that, Cap says we've gone "from a blockade to a booming city"!

"A lot of people will stand in front of a crowd like this and say that Covid is good for something or someone," Cap said in a TEDx talk.

"But that's why I'm here.

He will talk about the opportunities created by the inferno and how "Melbourne was hurt but made stronger by it".

One thing he will bring is the "parquet flooring" for alfresco dining that is now "an enduring positive feature of Melbourne".

"You could say the parks are the golden cracks that make Melbourne's famous dining hall better than ever."

What is it about the catastrophic labor shortage in the hospitality industry that makes you so angry?

Cap's speech will also praise government initiatives, such as when social housing associations and hotels realized they could actually sort out the homeless and provide people with empty rooms.

"It changed my life," she says.

"I recently received an email from a gentleman who was staying at a local hotel due to quarantine. Although he had been homeless for several years, staying at this hotel changed his life. What did he need to turn his life around? Now he has a job and a safe place to live.

So if you find a simple, life-saving solution to homelessness, why are the number of people literally sleeping rough in 2022? Why do people die?

In his speech, Hamilton cited sell-out tickets and queues at the cafe as signs that 'the wound is healing', an absolute slap in the face to those still living with prolonged Covid and the grieving loved ones of those lost .

And he says our economy must return to pre-pandemic levels by 2031: "Now I call it a thriving city to stop."

"Through the debilitating effects of Covid, in 262 days of a devastated city and community, we achieved the impossible, dared, took risks, dreamed of great, accelerated progress.

"Not just after the pain and destruction of the pandemic, but because of the pain and destruction of the pandemic, our community envisioned and accelerated Melbourne as a brave, brave, good place."

Honestly, Sally, put your mouth guard on.
